Currently ranked as the number one dart player in the world, Michael Van Gerwen is amongst the popular names of the darts sport. Van Gerwen comes from Boxtel, Netherlands and is a professional dart Dutch player. Having won the PDC World Dart Championship thrice in the years 2014,2017 and 2019, Michael Van Gerwen has earned himself the nickname Mighty Mike.
Van Gerwen started playing darts on a regular basis in 2002 when he was at the age of 13. This esteemed personality of the darts sport has many records in his name. In 2006 Van Gerwen became the youngest ever winner of the Winmau World Masters. This success of Gerwen was followed by his achievement in 2007 as the youngest player to do a televised nine-dart finish at the Masters of Darts. At the time, Michael Van Gerwen was at the age of 17 years and 298 days. However, earning this fame in the dart World was not a piece of cake for him. In his initial career, he had struggled a lot in order to remain at pace with his initial achievements.
Michael Van Gerwen became the youngest winner of the PDC World Championship in the year 2014. This record of Van Gerwen is still held by him even today. In the same year, Sky Sports telecasted a one hour documentary of Van Gerwen which showed his rise in the sport and also covered his life apart from darts. This documentary was named Mighty Mike. After his victory in the PDC World Championship in 2014, he also emerged as champion in the years 2017 and 2019, making him the second most successful player in the history of PDC. Michael Van Gerwen will always remain a prominent name in the history of darts.
